Even for a first offense, one's driving privileges can be taken away and stiff fines may be assessed if a conviction is ultimately obtained. Furthermore, jail time and/or community service could be ordered in appropriate cases. Moreover, a drunk driving arrest -- in and of itself -- can cause pandemonium in one's work and personal life.
