A high-profile individual was recently accused of being violent toward his partner in California. The charges (three misdemeanor counts) filed against noted actor Tom Sizemore stem from a reported domestic violence incident that occurred in July. His arraignment was scheduled for mid-September.
Sizemore is 54 years old. The charges include a count each of making terrorist threats, intimate partner abuse and intimate partner battery. The district attorney referred the actor's case to the office of a city attorney for misdemeanor-charge consideration after deciding against filing felony charges. The parties are not married.
According to police, the girlfriend said she was arguing with Sizemore, and the argument suddenly became physical. She then claimed that the man hit her face and head. The woman, age 36, reportedly suffered minor injuries in the incident. Authorities said the actor has been accused of domestic violence in the past, with the most recent incident occurring seven years ago.
Although the actor is facing criminal charges, he is still presumed innocent until and unless he is proved guilty in court. In domestic violence cases in the state of California, it is not uncommon for innocent people to be arrested, as police often like to err on the side of caution, which may mean arresting people even if there is not any substantial evidence of violence. However, defense counsel will scrutinize the evidence that prosecutors intend to offer in support of their allegations, with the goal of achieving the most personally favorable outcome for the client in light of the circumstances.
